Dizzy

Whoo, another dizzying day. Met at 9:00 a.m. with the recruiter who has set me up with the hard-drive-restoration job tomorrow. We met at the Dunn Bros. that Lileks frequents near the Star Tribune, only to discover it is closed for remodeling til mid-February, so I had her follow me to a nearby Bruegger's to do business.

After that I zipped home and got ready for the 2006 tax accounting meeting. Unemployment means having the time to actually organize the files. Finished up with just enough time to eat some lunch before the meeting.

That took two hours, after which there was just time to zip home and get straightened up for my job interview at 4:00. Unfortunately when I got there, nobody had ever heard of me. Yup, stood up at my job interview.

The panicked agency that had placed me at the interview wanted me to wait in the parking lot for ten minutes while they tried to fix things so I could still interview today. While I was waiting I got the oddest text message, from some unknown person at my prior client, telling me I had been assigned to some kind of project team. Seeing as I'm not working there anymore, I found it a bit confusing. Finally the agency called back and sent me home with their copious apologies.

So I came home, where laundry waited to be sorted.

After dinner I would like to relax, but I have to look over the hard-drive-restoration tools recommended to me by my friend Ben. I'm really hoping tomorrow goes well, and I'm in and out of there in a timely fashion. Then I have a phone interview at 2:00, and somewhere in there today's interview will be rescheduled...

After this bout of unemployment, I'm going to need a vacation!

Maybe you should have replied to the text message with something along the lines of "Does this mean my contract is renewed/reinstated? If so, my rate has increased 15% since I was released for wearing a hat." :)

Sing along with me, now:

"He works hard for no money. He works hard for no money."

Funny about the text message. Did you ever clear that up (bother to call to say what's up)? At least you're getting some nibbles.

Curious - what tools were recommended for HD restoration?

The reply I got this morning was

"That's a glitch with out[sp] Clarity system - sorry for the confusion."

Okay so for some reason my phone number is still buried in their 'Clarity' personnel-management system. Really I ought to show up there in my tie and say "I'm here to work on the project!" As Ben says, with a bump in my rate for their dumbness...

Ben has me looking at Helix, among other tools. I played with it last night, and I'm still not sure how to use it to recover files. I can see files with Retriever, but what I can't tell are which of those are recovered erased files, and where do I store them or unerase them on the drive? I tried to look at the online documentation, but I had to register an account that then had to be human-approved before I could log in to the documentation website.

I also have an old copy of O&O Unerase that I'm going to test on these guys - if it works, great, if it doesn't I'll download the latest version and try that.

Thanks for the info on the recovery tools.

So, what you're saying is that their Clarity isn't very clear? Or that their Clarity is cloudy? I call bullshit on the "glitch". I suspect that the only glitch is in the operators.

Oh, and I'd show up with tie and a hat. A Bowler might be nice.
